Recommendation 7: The program director must have a minimum of 0.2 FTE dedicated to clinical care, either in direct patient care or in the supervision of residents.
Justification
In order to remain clinically relevant, maintain role-modeling and mentorship, program directors must be allowed time to provide direct patient care and precept their residents.(5, 23) Many directors find clinical care rewarding and sustaining. Teams function better when leadership has first hand understanding of the complexities of providing care in an organization and challenges faced by their learners.
You may also consider adding that current ACGME CPRs state program directors must model care in accordance with their specialty, etc.--SG (also, I think I mentioned that recommendations of time in direct clinical care were outside our scope earlier, but this should probably be removed since we recommend that here).
